The Old Bridge between Huntingdon and Godmanchester will be permanently repaired by Summer 2024 following a crash which happened on the bridge on Thursday (December 7).
A person had to be cut from one of the cars after a crash with another car, and the bridge was blocked.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “One person was taken to hospital but there were not believed to be any serious injuries.”
Cambridgeshire County Council has said that due to The Old Bridge being a scheduled ancient monument, work to repair it will require the consent of both Historic England and the Environment Agency.
“We aim to carry out permanent repairs by summer 2024,” said a spokesperson for Cambridgeshire County Council.
“We ask drivers to take care crossing the historic bridge and remind pedestrians to make use of the adjacent footbridge.”
The spokesperson added that a “temporary barrier” has been installed to “protect the damaged stonework and the bridge has reopened”.
