Riverside Park, in St Neots, is set for accessibility improvements including a new toilet and footpath works.

There will be a new "changing places" toilet at the park, which will be fit with hoists, privacy curtains and adult-sized benches.

The work to install the toilet began on April 15, and it's due to conclude in June 2024.

Temporary toilets have been put up while construction continues on the facility.

Huntingdonshire District Council is also undertaking footpath improvements throughout Riverside Park.

Some of the improvements will include widening and resurfacing the pathways to make sure that they are accessible for all users.

It's hoped that the construction for the footpath improvements will begin in May 2024, and they should be finished by the end of summer.

The project to improve the footpaths has been funded by the Community Infrastructure Fund (CIL), and is part of the council's plan to improve local amenities and infrastructure.

The installation of the "changing places" toilet has been made possible via a combination of grant funding, which has been secured by Huntingdonshire District Council, St Neots Town Council and Cambridgeshire County Council, as well as the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Changing Places Fund.

The clerk for St Neots Town Council, Chris Robson, said "I'm delighted that through collaborative working between the Town Council and Huntingdonshire District Council we have been able to jointly provide a much-needed changing places facility in Riverside Park.

"When complete, it will help to ensure the needs of all users of our parks, our events and the wider town are met and we continue to make progress to becoming a fully inclusive town."

Assistant Director for Huntingdonshire District Council, Neil Sloper, said: "These improvements not only meet the needs of individuals with disabilities but also enhance the overall experience for our local communities and visitors alike."
