Bill Hensley from Huntingdonshire Community Radio on how the station celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Our programmes were directed towards commemorating the 70 years of the Queen’s reign. All the presenters for our shows pulled the stops out and played the brilliant music of the decades.

From the 50s with Rhythm & Blues and Rock and Roll to today’s latest hits the station played them all.

HCR104fm also had a collection of news items and 1950s celebrities and entertainment on hand to add to the nostalgia of the weekend. Our Thursday and Friday PM programmes were given over to hearing about The Queen’s Motors through the decades, her Prime Ministers and other royal items together with popular shows from the 50s like The Goon Show and Listen with Mother.

On Sunday our popular Cool Classics show was a Platinum Jubilee special edition featuring all things British from every corner of the United Kingdom including Parry’s “I was Glad” which was played at Her Majesty’s Coronation.

Looking towards the future, the station continues to support our community by nominating a charity or local group as its “Charity of Month”.

This month it’s the turn of the Melodramatics; a local NODA Award winning amateur dramatic society which has produced pantomimes for 32 years in the local area.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic the players have been unable to produce their normal Christmas time panto but this year their 'Rumpelstiltskin' panto will be staged at the Buckden Village Hall on July 8 to July 10.
