A cheque for £1,000 has been handed over to the Strong for Samson charity as part of St Neots Round Table’s cash grant give-away.

The money is a share of £12,000 from the Round Table’s Santa Sleigh collection, held in December last year, and a gin festival, which took place in October.

The second cheque was presented to Lynette and Lex Ellison who are raising money for the Action Duchenne charity. In May, the Little Paxton Scout Group received £1,000 and will use the money to improve toilet facilities at their scout hut.

Lynette and Lex have a six-year-old son called Samson who has an incurable muscle-wasting condition. They have been raising money for the charity as well a promoting awareness of the condition, and research for a cure.

Round Table chairman, Simon Smith, was on hand at the Black Cat Radio studio to present the cash to the couple who brought along their daughter, Rosie, and sons Leo and Samson.

Breakfast show presenter Ste Greenall welcomed everyone to his show for the cheque presentation and during the show, Lex persuaded Ste to join him and Leo on the final leg of a fund-raising bike ride.

Simon Smith said: “Our group has promised to choose a different St Neots charity or worthy cause every month, and go along to Black Cat 107 to present the money. Strong for Samson is a cause which touched our hearts, and we feel humbled to be able to help them out.”

Ste added: “It was quite chaotic in the studio, but both Samson and Leo had great fun, pushing a few buttons on the console.”

Lex won Fundraiser of the Year at last year’s St Neots Community Awards.
