The Rotary Club of St Neots St Marys have donated £5,000 to the Riverside Miniature Railway (RMR) in St Neots, which will help extend the tracks by 180 metres.

The Rotary Club presented a cheque to RMR chairman Ivan Hewlett who said the money would help kickstart phase two of its expansion project by adding a concrete track bed for a 180-metre extension.

The money will also help build an innovative new bridge, to be named the 'Rotary' bridge, which will cross old tree roots.

Rotary Club chairman, Grahm Wright, said he was "very pleased" to make the latest donation on behalf of the club as they had always believed that the RMR would be a great asset to the town.

Ivan thanked the Rotary Club for the "tremendous help" that has been provided over the last five years and for sharing his members’ vision of the great amenity and asset the RMR has become to St Neots, which brings many visitors to the town and the riverside park.

Thanks to the donation, RMR are on track to eventually add 320 metres to the length of its railway.
