Staff at the housebuilder Bellway Eastern Counties have donated toys and gifts as Christmas presents to youngsters on the children’s ward at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

Employees of the company donated a number of gifts, including toys, crafts, games and cuddly toys for multiple ages, to children on the Holly Ward.

A Bellway member of staff delivered the toys and gifts to the hospital on Friday 23 December, after they had been collected at the housebuilder’s head office in Cambourne.

The Holly Ward, which has 12 beds and one high-dependency bed, cares for children up to the age of 17. The ward is staffed by a team of experienced registered sick children’s nurses and there is a specialist hospital play team.

The ward has a parents’ sitting room with a microwave, a TV and an information board. There is bedroom onsite for parents of children who are admitted to the high-dependency bed.

Zoe Wilkinson, Play Service Co-ordinator at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, said: “Thank you so much to Bellway for the lovely donation.

“The beautiful toys will help make a child smile over the festive season, whilst in hospital.”

She added: “The variety of toys will cover all ages. We got excited when we saw the toys as we could think of patients on the ward that certain toys would suit.”

Rhiannon Jones, Head of Sales at Bellway Eastern Counties, said: “We approached Hinchingbrooke Hospital to see if we could help cheer up the youngsters on the children’s ward by buying them some Christmas presents.

“After they accepted our offer, we had a fantastic response from our staff when we asked them to donate gifts and toys”.

She added: “It is so sad to think of the poorly children who have to spend Christmas on a hospital ward instead of being at home with their families and I think that resonates with all of us.

“We hope that these gifts and toys will put smiles on the faces of these children and let them know that people are thinking of them at this special time of the year.”
