A new café will bring “authentic Indian street food” to customers while creating a safe space for the community.

Sunny and Preeti Mann have been working on the Chaii Hub on Cambridge Street, in St Neots, since last year.

The pair will aim to serve traditional Indian recipes to customers, while also providing a space to relax and socialise.

“We hope what makes the difference will be authenticity with food not from your typical curry house,” said Preeti.

“We called it the Chaii Hub because our vision is to bring the community together as a safe space for people to relax and feel comfortable.”

Chai is a type of sweet drink which contains spices such as cinnamon, ginger and black pepper.

As well as beverages, Sunny and Preeti aim to serve breakfast, brunch and lunch-style vegetarian meals that are traditional Indian recipes, including an Indian spiced potato dish called Aloo tikki.

The menu is one part of the project for the couple, who have been working on the building previously run by Kwellers Coffee House Café, which closed last summer.

“When we first came to St Neots around four years ago, we saw the café and thought we would love that; I still pinch myself that we got it!” said Sunny.

“I’ve been in hospitality for more than 15 years and a manager of my own restaurant for 10 years.

“We could see the potential at the café.”

Both Sunny and Preeti feel the Chaii Hub, due to open later this month, will look to produce a range of meals at affordable prices whilst offering something rather different type of cuisine.

Preeti added: “We want to introduce the people of St Neots to authentic Indian food and create a safe space for them, so it will hopefully cater for everyone.”
