A St Ives care home has been rated ‘good’ by the health and care regulator, three years after inspectors said it ‘requires improvement’.
Field Lodge, in London Road, has shown the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that the service it currently provides is consistently ‘good’ in all five areas assessed in inspections.
It was previously rated ‘good’ in three areas when inspectors visited in 2020, but safety at the home and its leadership were deemed ‘requires improvement’.
This meant it received an overall rating of ‘requires improvement’.
But when an inspection team visited on February 16 this year, they felt adequate improvements had been made for Field Lodge to receive a better overall rating.
The report, published on March 24, says: “People felt safe living at Field Lodge and received care in line with their needs and wishes...
“... There were enough well-trained staff available to meet people’s care and support needs.”
The report noted accidents and other incidents are documented and reviewed, and that people are “supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives”.
Relatives with loved ones in the home also complimented the service, highlighting the caring nature of the staff and the manager.
Communication with families was also highlighted.
While medicines were found to be managed safely, inspectors noted there was no evidence to suggest medication errors were being analysed collectively to explore themes and reduce mistakes.
“Despite this, there had been no negative impact on the people in the home from the medication errors recorded,” the report said.
Field Lodge is one of over 150 care homes run by the company Care UK.
The St Ives home can provide personal and nursing care for up to 72 people, some may also be living with dementia or require short-term respite care.
There were 63 residents at the time of the inspection.
Linda Martinez, the home’s manager, said: “It's fantastic to read the positive feedback from the CQC inspectors.
“It’s a true testament to the team's passion and devotion to providing the highest standard of care to ensure residents live truly fulling lives.”
