Pop superstars McFLY made their long-awaited return to Newmarket on Friday evening for their first visit since enrapturing thousands of fans with their spectacular hit-filled Summer Saturday Live performance in 2021.
With seven UK number-one singles, six top-ten albums, seven arena tours and 10 million records sold worldwide, McFly are without question one of the most significant British pop acts of the 21st century.
Since hitting the big time as the youngest band ever to have a debut album go straight to number one — beating The Beatles’ long-standing record — Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd have become one of our best-loved bands, not to mention major stars in their own right.
After the conclusion of an expanded seven race card, the large crowd were treated to an energetic set from the band, who this week celebrated their 20th anniversary together.
Opening with Where Did all the Guitars Go? the 17-track set contained all the favourites and a selection from their excellent new album, Power to Play.
A cover of the Bruce Springsteen classic Dancing in the Dark was also included. An hour and a half later, a brilliant encore of All About You and 5 Colours in Her Hair brought the gig to a close.
The 2023 Newmarket Nights conclude next week with Olly Murs taking to the stage after racing on Friday, August 18. Tickets for the show are available now at thejockeyclub.com/live
