Cambridgeshire businesses are being given the chance to join low carbon experts on a free two-day course aimed at cutting costs and cutting carbon.

Offered as part of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Low Carbon Business Support Programme, the course will provide small and medium sized businesses with expert advice.

The aim is to help the companies to reduce their carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency, and explore new green technologies and opportunities for renewable energy generation.

The programme offers something for them with business diagnostics, technology reviews and training available from expert business advisors.

There are a few remaining places available for the final two-day training sessions offered by the programme taking place on September 18 and 19 in Alconbury Weald.

The workshops involve learning how to audit your energy usage, an introduction to the concept of carbon footprinting and an overview of low carbon technologies including LED lighting, air source heat pumps and solar as well as guidance on how to find funding and procurement support.

Vice-chair of Cambridgeshire County Council’s environment and green investment committee, Councillor Nick Gay, said: “We’re already seeing fantastic efforts across our communities as we work towards creating a net zero Cambridgeshire by 2045 – and businesses have an important part to play.

“If you’re a business owner, don’t miss out on the last opportunity to attend this free course, where you’ll receive tailored support to consider the changes that will help you adapt to the low carbon economy.”

Oli Bachini, business owner and previous attendee, said: “This session provided a very useful introduction to a relatively new subject for me, there were lots of useful take aways and practical tools which will help us on this journey.”

The programme, which also covers Peterborough, is delivered by Cambridgeshire County Council in partnership with PECT and Deyton Bell Ltd and runs through to the end of September 2023.

The project has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
