A 16-year-old cyclist has won his first race, despite initially entering for experience and with three aims: to have fun, not crash and remain in the pack.
St Ives Cycling Club Development Squad rider Isaac Pembury defeated competition in the Men’s Category 4 race at round two of the Colchester Centurion series.
Coming out of the final turn onto the finishing straight, he described the finish: “After the final turn, I left the rider’s draft and started my sprint, overtaking the rider who had attacked with 700 metres to go and crossing the line in first place.”
In other racing, Development Squad Under 23 rider Ollie Maynard has had a busy summer racing.
His highlights include two second places, a third and a fifth in the Yorkshire Summer Cyclocross Series, and a fourth at the University of Shefield Cycling Club criterium series.
16-year-old development squad rider Charlie Coad-Bell has also had a successful summer cyclocross season with two second and two fourth place junior age group results in the Central Region Cyclocross Summer Series.
