Around 600 people took part in a pub quiz in St Ives which raised money for several charities.
The Quizmaster Cup, sponsored by Wellington Wise Estate Agents, was won by The Manor & Black Rock Grill in Alconbury with a score of 187 from the 195 questions.
They chose Childrens’ Acute Transport Services as their charity and the group will receive £300 as a result of the win.
The team also won a dozen bottles of wine.
This charity was chosen because a young boy was saved in a dash to St Mary’s Hospital London as an Air Ambulance was not available. The father was one of the members of their winning quiz team
In second place was Lakeside Lodge Golf & Country Club, scoring 186 points, who split their £200 prize money between the captains’ charities; Dementia UK and Huntingdon Community Cancer Network. They also won six bottles of wine.
The largest team, The Anchor Inn at Wimblington, who won £200 which they donated to Myeloma UK as their charity had a magnificent 42 people in their team.
All the top 10 teams won prize money for their chosen charities.
The Market Inn, Huntingdon were third with 184 points and donated £120 to Young Lives against Cancer.
The Three Horseshoes, Graveley were fourth with 182 points and gave £110 to the Alzheimers Society.
In fifth place, with 181 points, were The White Swan at Conington, donating £100 to Pinpoint, who provide disability services and support for the parents and carers of young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
Four teams tied on 180 points and shared the prizemoney, getting £75 for their charities: Floods Tavern donated to the Mayor of St Ives’ charity; Buckden Village Club chose MAGPAS; The Three Horseshoes at Houghton gave their donation to EACH (East Anglia Childrens Hospices).
In the region of £2,500 has been raised, with £1,380 sent directly to the charities listed above. Remaining funds will be used to support for local, national and international charities, causes and projects.
