Part of a Huntingdonshire village had to be closed off at the weekend due to a "hazardous hole in the ground which posed a potential risk of electrical shock."
Police officers responded to an unusual incident at what initially appeared to be a harmless hole in the ground in Houghton.
It was discovered that a snapped electrical mains cable was connected to the hole, creating a hazardous situation where a puddle boiled and emitted steam, potentially posing a risk of an electrical shock.
To ensure safety, the force’s response team quickly closed off the area until UK Power Network arrived to disconnect the power supply for necessary repairs.
