A social enterprise that supports adults with additional needs has been awarded £25,000 from a trust related to the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Burwell Print Centre celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and has received the funds from the Postcode Places Trust.
The team of printers work from The Causeway, in Burwell, and offer a range of printing services including books, brochures, t-shirts and business stationery.
They are particularly busy with print runs of Christmas cards at the moment.
Jane Sulch from the Burwell Print Centre said: “This year is a really special milestone for us.
“Our printers gain so much by coming along to us and are involved in all aspects of the organisation.
“They learn important life skills, get to speak for themselves and develop self-confidence.
“It really creates a positive change in their lives and it’s wonderful to see them grow."
As well as the printing services, there is also a shop at the site called Hidden Treasures where Printers can develop their customer service skills further.
After the pandemic, the demand for printing services dropped and the centre introduced handmade crafts such as ceramics and felting.
Burwell Funky Soaps – beautiful handmade soaps made by the printers - was also launched in March.
Jane added: “This has provided an amazing opportunity for our printers to create a sellable product that can be stocked in shops outside of Burwell, including Unwrapped in Ely.”
All these products are available in Hidden Treasures, where local crafters can rent an area in the shop to sell their own products.
This Saturday (November 25) the shop is hosting a Christmas special “Meet the Sellers” event between 10am 4pm.
The team at Burwell Print Centre will also be busy attending upcoming Christmas markets in East Cambridgeshire throughout December with their own products.
Burwell Funky Soaps and Crafts will be at Burwell Christmas Market on December 2, Isleham Christmas Market on December 8 and Girton Christmas Market on December 16.
