Free NHS Health Checks are currently available across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough with the aim of detecting early signs of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia.
It is estimated that the 1.1 million checks delivered in 2022 to 2023 across the UK helped to avoid over 400 strokes and heart attacks, identified 220,000 people who would benefit from statin medication, and diagnosed 32,000 people with hypertension.
The health check - a face-to-face check-up for adults in England aged 40-74 - is on offer from Healthy You, the healthy lifestyle service funded by Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council.
It takes 20-30 minutes, and blood pressure, height, weight, BMI (a measure of whether or not someone are a healthy weight), cholesterol and HbA1C levels (this can identify diabetes risk) will be checked.
To book a free Health Check, or discuss your eligibility, text HEALTHYU to 60777 or call 0333 005 0093.
