A St Ives-based drama group is in the final stages of rehearsal for their forthcoming production of the "perfect musical comedy".

The Centre Theatre Players will perform 'Guys and Dolls’ in the Burgess Hall of One Leisure St. Ives from May 9-11.

Performances will take place at 7.30pm and there is a matinee on the Saturday at 2.30pm.

Richard Chalkley, of the group, said: "With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, this show is hailed by some as the perfect musical comedy.

"It was first performed on Broadway in 1950 and enjoyed a long and successful run before moving to London’s West End in 1954.

"During this time, it has received many awards and honours and has enjoyed several revivals including the current production being performed professionally in the West End."

The show will be directed by Nick Thompson, assisted by Matthew Wilson with musical direction by Mellanie Bell and choreography by Martha Hiscock.

The cast includes many of the regular players but also introduces a few new faces to local audiences.

"Fabulous characters, iconic hit songs, laughs and romance, this show is just an explosion of joy, added Mr Chalkley.

Tickets are still available and can be purchased online from www.ticketsource.co.uk/burgesshall or from the One Leisure St. Ives main reception.
