A man who has raised thousands of pounds for cancer charities has been presented with the Mayor of Huntingdon's Community Shield.

Luke Claxton, who has raised over £250,000, was presented with the award at the Mayor Making Ceremony at Huntingdon Town Hall on May 2.

Luke set up The Veronica Claxton Foundation in memory of his mum, who passed away from cancer in 2008.

The memorial fund is at an incredible £359,879.23. 

Luke's fundraising efforts earned him the most amount of nominations for the Mayor of Huntingdon's Community Shield, which was presented by Deputy Lieutenant Chris Parkhouse DL.

The outgoing Mayor, Cllr Phil Pearce, presented cheques to his six chosen charities at the ceremony. 

During his time as Mayor, Cllr Pearce raised £10,924.08 in funds for his charities, which were: St John's Ambulance (Huntingdon Branch), Royal British Legion (Huntingdon Branch), Fusion Family and Youth Projects, Friends of Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Huntingdon Volunteer Centre, and an association of local primary school PTAs.

The Cromwell Museum's Curator, Stuart Orme, attended the ceremony on behalf of the Cromwell Museum trustees to make the annual payment of one peppercorn per annum to Huntingdon Town Council for the rent of the Cromwell Museum.
