The future of a proposed Splash Park in St Neots could be sealed at a Full Town Council meeting on June 25.
The project has been in the works for seven years now, when the then-St Neots Town Council asked six volunteers to form a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) to spearhead the plan.
However, in order to deliver the proposal, the St Neots Aquatic and Leisure CIO have asked St Neots Town Council for a grant of £650,000.
On June 25, Town Councillors will consider the grant and vote on whether to give it to the St Neots Aquatic and Leisure CIO - which could secure the Splash Park's future.
Speaking to The Hunts Post,
Mick Marks, who is the Chairman of the St Neots Aquatic and Leisure CIO, said: "Assuming the councillors agree the grant in the full council meeting in June, we will be able to contract the project tender winners, to start building in 2025 and to open the facility for spring/summer in 2025."
If the grant is given, Mr Marks said that the CIO "intend to deliver exactly what was asked of us, a high quality water play area which will be part of a growing outdoor entertainment location for everyone in St Neots to enjoy and benefit from."
The team behind the project are all unpaid volunteers who "have worked hard over the many years, giving their time and commitment free to this project", says Mr Marks.
The £650,000 grant will give the CIO a £40,000 contingency, which, if not used, will be put towards building a café and other facilities on the site.

Previously, the funding request made by the CIO has been deferred - a decision which was, at the time, described as "frustrating".
All eyes will be on the future of the Splash Park as the CIO and St Neots residents eagerly await the Town Council's decision.
