Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on May 22 that a General Election will be held on July 4.

To launch The Hunts Post's coverage of the General Election, we'll be speaking to candidates in the constituencies of Huntingdon, North West Cambridgeshire, and the new constituency, St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire.

Standing as a Green Party candidate in St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire is Kathryn Fisher.

Kathryn, 29, has said that she is a "relatively young political candidate", however, she hopes to "bring a new energy to the political landscape of Cambridge."

She is an active campaigner for the rights of women, LGBTQAI+ people and the Palestinian population.

When asked what her priorities are for St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire, Kathryn said: "If elected as the MP for St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire I will be championing measures to bring the cost of living down, namely through taxation of the super rich and investment in public services such as the NHS, social housing and public transport systems."

She continued: "Having worked as a landscape designer, I am passionate about putting people and planet into the heart of new developments and infrastructure projects.

"Therefore I will ensure that the A428 upgrade and East West Rail are undertaken as sustainably as possible."

During the pandemic, Kathryn volunteered as the coordinator of the Cambridge Community Kitchen and as a project leader at a local foodbank.

She said of this experience: "I understand how vital it is that we lift people out of poverty and give them the joyful life that they deserve."

Kathryn told The Hunts Post: "We all know how shambolic the current government has been over the last 14 years so it comes as no surprise that the election has been called in the same chaotic manner.

"The same won’t be said for the Green Party’s general election campaign which offers the electorate what they want: Real Hope, Real Change."
