The last pub serving pints in a Huntingdonshire village is reopening after a three-month closure.

The former tenants announced on their Facebook page that the Stukeley Country Hotel, in Great Stukeley, near Huntingdon, would be closing its doors on April 1.

It prompted parish councillors to vote in favour of initiating the application process to list the building as an Asset of Community Value.

However, The Hunts Post can reveal that the Stukeley Country Hotel will officially reopen on July 6.

Husband and wife team Ryan and Cat Cotter will take over as the new tenants of the popular establishment.

They said they took on the hotel with the aim of creating a "true community pub".

Working with the brewery Stonegate, the pair added that the hotel offered them a chance to a run a local pub with a "family vibe".

Cat said: "When we went to The Stukeley Country Hotel we weren't looking for a hotel, but we just fell in love with it, and it just felt like us.

"Ever since we posted on Facebook that we were taking it over, we've had nothing but interest and support.

"And as soon as the doors open we want to meet the local community, but most importantly understand their needs and feedback."

The pair are planning to make a number of changes to the interior and exterior of the building, including adding another bar with a pool table and darts, and creating an outdoor space using the existing car park.

Cat added: "We're really keen to have live music from time to time and to make the venue kid-friendly.

"So we want to make a space outdoors that is a bit more versatile that can host kids and community events."

The new tenants are also making changes to the menu to cater to a wide audience with the help of external catering company Stacked and Loaded.

Offering a range of classic American dishes including burgers, and loaded-fries, the St Neots-based company will offer a table menu to suit a range of palates.

Ryan said: "They're a great company who were really keen to get involved and we've spoken to them because we want to make sure that we're providing what the community wants.

"We want to adapt the menu for people eating in the pub so we're able to offer a wider selection."

The hotel will also offer a take-away service that includes delivery options.

Ryan and Cat will also host an open day on July 27, with barbecue and food provided.
