The Disney Channel favourite High School Musical is being performed on stage in St Ives later this month.
St Ives Youth Theatre, comprising of 11 – 18-year-olds, brings audiences its latest production.
Troy, Gabriella and the students of East High must deal with issues of first love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extracurricular activities.
After a sell-out run of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Peter Bottley and assisted by Andy Davis (chairman), Katie Wellman takes over the helm for her directorial debut.
She says: “I loved High School Musical when it first aired 18 years ago, and to bring it to life on stage with SIYT has been a dream come true."
The production has up to three rehearsals a week to ensure all the performing elements are ready for the run at the Burgess Hall, with a widely experienced production team helping the members.
SIYT is ran by volunteers with the aim of using the stage as a platform to boost confidence.
“The talent amongst this bunch is incredible. Directing this musical these past four months has been a wild ride,” added Katie.
St Ives Youth Theatre aims to provide young people who are currently in secondary education with opportunities to develop their performance skills through a variety of communication methods.
Through working in all areas of stage craft - including the support of performances through stage-management, technical support, marketing, costumes and make-up - young people are encouraged to develop the self-confidence and personal qualities that will sustain them through life.
You can see SIYT’s production of High School Musical: On Stage at the Burgess Hall, St Ives, from Wednesday, July 17 to Saturday, July 20. Tickets: £15 for adults, £10 for concessions, and £40 for a family ticket (2+2).
St Ives Youth Theatre is a non-profit making organisation and a local theatre company made up of up to 40 teenagers. St Ives Youth Theatre is open to anyone in secondary education in Huntingdonshire and membership is achieved through auditions held each September.
