Amy and Nicky Jeffries never expected to find themselves at the helm of a paranormal investigation company.
Avid ghost-hunters, the mother and daughter duo founded SGP Paranormal in 2023 to combat what they describe as a "lack" of supernatural-based events across the region.
While the St Neots pair have always exercised an interest in the paranormal, Nicky and Amy attended their first investigation in 2022 before developing not only an "addiction" but an insight into the "huge interest" in all things supernatural.
A paranormal investigation is loosely defined as the exploration and study of phenomena that cannot be explained by conventional scientific understanding.
Such a process can include, but is not limited to, the examination of reports of apparitions, unexplained sounds and other supernatural occurrences.
Reaching out to friends on Facebook, the pair organised their first non-profit investigation at Hinchingbrooke School - and it was a roaring success, selling out all 30 spaces within a matter of days.
Nicky said: "It's still a very small company in a big paranormal world. There's a lot of big companies out there, but there's a lot of negative views on the paranormal.
“There’s a misconception that everything’s demonic and everything’s evil, but it’s really not like that.”
Nicky and Amy explain they're committed to challenging misconceptions surrounding the supernatural.
For the duo, ghosts and apparitions don’t have to be scary and through paranormal investigations, people are often left “wanting more”.
Amy added: “When you go on an investigation, no matter how much evidence you collect, you’re always left wanting more.
“I don’t think I’ve seen anything appear right in front of me yet, but I’ve heard and seen glimmers which is what makes people come back.
“It’s the wanting to know whether a spirit has passed on to another dimension or whether it still remains in ours that I think is most intriguing.”
While redefining our experiences with the supernatural is perhaps the pair’s most important aim, one of the most enjoyable parts of their investigations is the historic sites they visit.
“Some of the places we go to are fascinating and I think that’s one of the most enjoyable parts for me - going to all of these places that are filled with so much history and learning about them,” said Nicky.
“When you get signs or messages that come through while you’re investigating - whether that’s through a Ouija board or another method - that aligns with history, that’s pretty exciting.”
But the key to the pair’s success is their ethos: embracing a wide range of viewpoints.
Nicky said: “As for taking our experiences and then bringing that to other people, we don’t force our opinions on anybody. We remain open-minded and we don’t automatically think that a knock is someone trying to give me a sign.
“We have lots of sceptical people, nonbelievers, and sensitives in our groups. We wanted to take our own private experiences of investigations and take them to the public, which is why we like to make events slightly fun so that people can relax and not have to be so focussed on ghost-hunting.”
Having visited venues such as Tudor World and Alcester Hall, in September the pair will host a paranormal investigation at Brook House in St Neots for the first time.
The venue was built around 1700 and is a renowned Georgian grade 2 listed building.
Reports of full body apparitions, disembodied voices and dark shadows have all been witnessed in the building.
