A community coffee morning at a care home in Huntingdon has been given a gold award.

Ferrars Hall hosts a monthly social gathering geared towards involving the elderly in community activities.

Their determined efforts to organise these events have been recognised with a gold standard award from Ageing Allies, a non-profit organisation championing senior citizen involvement in communal activities.

The initiative encourages residents to maintain active ties with their community.

Senior customer relations manager, Katie Peters, invited politicians from all parties standing in Huntingdon to the June meeting, ahead of the General Election.

Among the attendees was MP Ben Obese-Jecty was among the attendees, who shared his military service experiences and listened to timeless memories from the residents.

Sarah Smith, the Reform Party candidate for Huntingdon, took a moment from her campaign to connect with the community.

Being a resident of Huntingdonshire for more than three decades, Sarah was more than glad to interact with the senior citizens.

Katie Peters said: “It was wonderful to be able to host Ben Obese-Jecty from the Conservative Party and Sarah Smith from the Reform Party.

"Thank you to you both for taking the time out from your busy schedules to meet our residents and answer their questions.”

The next community coffee morning is scheduled for Tuesday, July 30 at 10.30am.

All are welcome to join in the casual setting filled with teas, cakes, and cheerful chatter.
