Hospital staff traded their medical scrubs for parachutes in a daring fundraiser for a trust charity.

16 daredevil employees from Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals leapt from a plane above Cambridgeshire last weekend.

The exhilarating event, aimed at boosting funds for the North West Anglia Hospitals Charity, saw staff from a range of departments — including the surgical assessment unit, cardiac ward, finance team, and estates and facilities team — make the jump, most of them first-time parachute jumpers.

Community-spirited organiser Katie Longley, estates and facilities administrator, said: “It was fantastic to see how excited everyone was following the jump.

"It was a bucket list dream completed for many colleagues and a few of us loved it so much we would happily do it again.”

The skydiving spectacle garnered sponsor donations exceeding £3,700.

Katie said: “I did a charity jump last year and wanted to do something to support patients and colleagues in my own workplace this time.

"What started as a throwaway comment in the office quickly gathered interest and we shared the idea across our internal channels."

The massive leap into the clouds cultivated a sense of camaraderie among the different departments.

"It was great to see the idea come to life and bring together staff from different departments who would not normally have crossed paths.

"There have been some new friendships made along side the money raised." Katie said.

Philip Fearn, charity project manager, said: “It has been absolutely fantastic to witness this group of staff get together and face such a challenge on behalf of the charity.

"On behalf of our charity, I would like to thank all our jumpers for being such great sports.”
