A court order has been issued to the owner of an XL Bully, warning him the dog may be destroyed if he fails to meet certain requirements.

James Ivens, of Lime Tree Close, Yaxley, was sentenced on Friday July 12 at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court.

The 36-year-old had previously admitted one charge of possessing / have custody of a fighting dog, namely an XL Bully.

The breed is a prohibited type of dog under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and it is against the law to own one without an exemption certificate.

At the sentencing hearing, Ivens was handed a contingent destruction order for the dog.

It states the XL Bully, named Ruby, must be kept under proper control, neutered and micro chipped.

She must also be muzzled and kept on a lead in a public place, controlled by a person over 16 years old and “the owner maintain up-to-date third-party insurance for the dog”.

The animal is at risk of being destroyed if these requirements are not adhered to.

Ivens was also ordered to pay £206 and fined £40.
