An illegal traveller site in Huntingdonshire was removed by Cambridgeshire Police officers yesterday (July 15).

The travellers arrived on Sunday, July 14 and set up an encampment on the play area in Barley Close, St Ives.

Police had received reports of anti-social behaviour since the travellers arrived and acted under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act to remove the group and their vehicles.

The force held a briefing at St Ives Leisure Centre before they arrived at the site.

The Section 60 legislation allows police to create an offence for any person over the age of 18 residing on land without the authority of the occupier, possessing or intending to possess at least one vehicle on the land, and causing significant damage, disruption or distress or being likely to cause such disruption because of their presence.

The police have encouraged people to continue reporting incidents like this one to them.
