On Thursday July 4, I was honoured to be elected as the new Member of Parliament for Huntingdon. I am hugely proud that so many people have placed their trust and faith in me to be their representative in Westminster.

It was a fantastic result for the party on an otherwise difficult night across Cambridgeshire and beyond.

Nearly all the polls had indicated a Labour win in Huntingdon and so to buck that trend was testament to the phenomenal work from our activists and volunteers who worked so hard to communicate my vision for Huntingdon to the electorate.

Politics is a team sport and our campaign reflected how important it is to have such a good team around me, including our fantastic councillors at county and district level.

Many of you will know me already either from the campaign or my work across the constituency. I am excited about the opportunity to continue meeting constituents, local businesses and organisations.

I am working to hire staff and setup my constituency office in order to ensure casework can be supported and regular surgeries can be held.

Please bear with me as we get up to speed in these first few weeks. As I pledged during my election campaign I am committed to putting my office in Huntingdon town centre in order to ensure that I have a physical presence within the community and I have already started that process.

Huntingdonshire is a region with a huge amount of potential and I am excited about the opportunity to champion it in Parliament and beyond.

There is much work to do, from rebuilding Hinchingbrooke Hospital to tackling flooding and improving funding for Cambridgeshire Police; I will deliver the pledges outlined in my local plan.

As your MP I will continue to work hard for every constituent, to hold the Labour government to account, and to ensure that not only is the constituency of Huntingdon represented in Westminster but that what is best for Huntingdon is always my priority.
