An artist's impression has been revealed of the new Hinchingbrooke Hospital which is due to be built by 2030. 

The team leading the redevelopment has released the images ahead of a series of events being organised for the public to learn more about the project.  

The Huntingdon hospital is being rebuilt as the original building was experiencing structural issues caused by RAAC reinforced concrete.  

This summer, events are being organised for members of the public to find out what’s being planned for the site and what it could look like.

(Image: BDP) Deborah Lee, who is working on the redevelopment programme, said: “This is a really exciting time for all of us and we want to give the public the opportunity to get involved, provide their feedback and help us on our redevelopment journey.  

“We are in the early stages of development at the moment, but we have lots to share and would like to give our local community an update on our plans for the future.”   

The events will be held:  

  • Face-to-face at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Partnership Suite, Education Centre on Thursday (July 25) from 5.30pm until 7pm and August 1 from 4.30pm until 6pm. 
  • Online on Thursday (July 25) from 2.30pm to 3.30pm and August 1 between 10am and 11am. Links to attend the sessions are available at https://shorturl.at/Tk7GY  

In May 2023, the then health secretary and North East Cambridgeshire MP Steve Barclay included Hinchingbrooke Hospital in the Government’s New Hospital Programme.

(Image: BDP) It was one of five hospitals added to the programme, another was the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.  

Since then, Hinchingbrooke’s team has been developing the Strategic Outline Case, which is an initial step needed in the project approval process.  

Planning permission is also still required for the build to go ahead. 

Hinchingbrooke was built in 1983 and recently celebrated its 40th anniversary serving the community. 

A wider redevelopment strategy is ongoing at the hospital with £2.75m investment in Urgent and Emergency Care services completed in April 2021.

A £30m new operating theatres block is also due to open this summer.
