An apprentice from Huntingdon has been commended during her first year working in the construction industry.

Bellway apprentice, Shelly McLean, represented promising apprentices at a new training hub's unveiling during her first year with the firm.

Ms McLean, 41, from Huntingdon, recently commenced work at Wimblington's Primrose Grove development after previous engagements at sites around Cambridgeshire.

Ms McLean stated: "I was told that this meant that I had potential and that I am standing out on my course which is nice to know."

Additionally, Ms McLean detailed her experience at Witchford’s The Vickers, where she managed five house handovers.

Reflecting on the customers' feedback, she said: "I got a bit emotional as this was the first time that I have got that kind of recognition from a customer.”

Ms McLean joined the Women into Home Building programme in April 2023, commencing her apprenticeship later in September.

Her ambition is to become a construction director, and she feels "every day is a learning day" in her current role.
