Stephen Chamberlain, who was named as the pedestrian killed in a crash in Stretham at the weekend, was the co-defendant of Mike Lynch in his US fraud trial.
Mike Lynch, a tech tycoon living in Suffolk, is currently missing after the luxury yacht he was on sunk off of the coast of Sicily on Monday (August 19).
Mr Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, has been rescued. Mr Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, are still missing.
Earlier this year, Mike Lynch was on trial in America on multiple fraud charges along with Stephen Chamberlain. However, the pair were acquitted in June following the $11bn (£8.64bn) sale of the software giant, Autonomy, which is based in Cambridge.
48 hours prior to Mr Lynch's disappearance, his co-defendant, Stephen Chamberlain, was hit by a car while he was out running in Stretham, his lawyer confirmed.
Gary Lincenberg, Mr Chamberlain's lawyer, told CNN: "He was a courageous man with unparalleled integrity. We deeply miss him.
"Steve fought successfully to clear his good name at trial earlier this year, and his good name now lives on through his wonderful family."
Mr Chamberlain was hit by the car on the A1123 at around 10:10am on August 17.
The driver of the car, a 49-year-old woman from Haddenham, remained at the scene as is still assisting with the police investigation.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the collision, or the moments before or after, should contact the force via 101 and ask to speak with Detective Constable Kevin Drury in the serious collision investigation unit (SCIU).
