A project offering informal bereavement support space is being launched in Huntingdon.

The Sue Ryder 'Grief Kind Space', is set to open from September 9 and aims to tackle loneliness among those dealing with grief.

The charity says it is a safe space that will be open every Monday between 10am and midday, located at Dobbies Garden Centre Café.

This is Sue Ryder's fifth such initiative in Cambridgeshire.

These spaces serve as a platform where residents share their grief experiences.

Sue Ryder Grief Kind Space area coordinator, Laura Venning, who supports the inauguration of these spaces, spoke positively about the development.

Ms Venning said: “It’s wonderful that thanks to our fantastic volunteers and the support of Dobbies Garden Centre in Huntingdon we can swiftly open another Grief Kind Space for people in Cambridgeshire, providing much-needed support to even more people in the county.

“Quite often people feel they are a burden speaking about their grief to friends or family, but our Grief Kind Spaces help remove that feeling, so people can talk, listen to others who might be experiencing the same as them, and gain support, helping them to feel heard and less alone."

She also highlighted the services' inclusive nature and the no-strings-attached modality of these spaces, she said: “Our Grief Kind Spaces are welcoming, inclusive and open to anyone who is over 18 and has experienced a bereavement."

The charity is also on the lookout for more local volunteers to assist with this project.

In encouraging people to join, Ms Venning said: “All of our sessions are run out in the community with the help of trained volunteers, and we are looking for more people to join the team."
