Bill Hensley, station manager for Huntingdon Community Radio, writes his monthly column for September.

The Huntingdon Carnival last month was a great success and HCR104fm was pleased to have a presence as usual. The weather was kind and the two days were filled with fun and music. Well done to all those who took part and everyone who supported the event.

Our Charity of The Month for September is SSAFA (Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire). The Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen’s and their Families Association provides welfare services to family members of the armed forces.

It supports older veterans, giving them physical and emotional care and provides social care, advice and housing for the armed forces community. SSAFA has a strong emphasis on supporting serving men and veterans with mental health issues, offering help with bereavement, injury or other forms of stress.

It also supports with disability issues by providing advice, and equipment in time of need.

To find our more and to support the valuable work that SSAFA undertakes, go to: https://www.ssafa.org.uk/cambridgeshire-bedfordshire.

There is also information on the home page of our website.  You can also listen to Over to You, our community access programme which was broadcast on September 4 by checking in to our Listen Again option on our website, when a representative from the charity was in conversation with presenter Norman Knapper.

We continue to introduce new volunteer presenters on the station. This is a great indicator of how much local radio is part of our community. If you would like to be considered for joining us, please go to: https://www.hcrfm.co.uk/join-us/ for the information you need!

Here at HCR104fm we provide a fantastic range of music to suit most tastes. If you are a Saturday evening radio listener, you will hear 80s, club dance music and an eclectic mix of music you won’t always hear on other stations.

Our Saturday evening team are Pete Sibthorpe, Simon BB and Paul Askew - all dedicated to their own genres and passionate about radio. If you’ve not yet heard them - give them a listen at the weekend!

Remember it’s so easy now to listen to us. We have a mobile app that can be installed via your play store, just search for HCR104fm.
