A planning application has been submitted for a brand new 3G Artificial Grass Pitch at a Huntingdonshire town's football ground.
The teams at Godmanchester Rovers Football Ground could soon be playing on the new pitch after the application was validated by Huntingdonshire District Council on September 2.
The plans seek to create the 3G Artificial Grass Pitch along with perimeter fencing, hardstanding areas, a storage container, floodlights and an access footpath at the club on Bearscroft Lane.
The pitch will be green with white coloured line markings for football. It will be made with 3G synthetic grass, which is specifically designed to look more like natural turfing rather than Astro turf.
The plans have been met with overwhelming support from nearby residents and those in the Godmanchester community, with one resident saying that the planned pitch is "essential" for the town.
They said that the new pitch will support the "fabulous work" from parents and coaches in Godmanchester.
One public comment in support of the application said: "A 3G pitch will greatly improve the football facilities for young people in our local community, offering all year round facilities and promoting physical health and fitness."
Another comment said that the new pitch will enhance safety for younger children in the town. It read: "Having this pitch at the club will create a safer area for the kids to play football, especially in the winter when we have to use other facilities - which is not as safe as if we were able to use the club's own facilities."
One public comment raised concerns about a "lack of parking" at the club. The application does not indicate any plans to increase the number of pre-existing 225 parking spaces available at the grounds.
