A 69-year-old paedophile has been jailed for historic sex abuse in Cambridgeshire which took place more than 20 years ago.

Andrew Wesley indecently assaulted two girls between 1998 and 2003 at different address in the county.

His five-year-long offending came to light in 2022 when the two girls came forward separately to report the historic incidents to the police.

At Peterborough Crown Court on September 13, Wesley, of The Valley, Comberton, Cambridge, was jailed for 12 years after he was found guilty by a jury at an earlier hearing of seven counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, two counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16 and gross indecency with a girl under 14.

Detective Constable Terry Bandoo, who investigated, said: "Wesley took advantage of two children in the most depraved and heinous way.

"He abused them and robbed them of their innocent, carefree childhood.

"I would like to commend the victims for their bravery, courage and strength in coming forward and throughout this whole investigation and court process, I know it hasn’t been easy.

"No sentence can ever undo the physical and mental trauma, but I hope this sentence brings them some form of comfort and shows how seriously we take these reports."
