Plans for a brand new retirement community to be built in Huntingdon have entered their first phase - and you can have your say on them.

McCarthy Stone, a retirement living developer, is seeking to build a 48 apartment retirement complex on the land on the corner of Hartfield Road and Nursery Road. The land was one the former fire station.

A spokesperson for the company said: "There is a real need for this type of housing in Huntingdon, with an ageing population and limited specialist accommodation for older people to downsize to."

The proposals include "attractive landscaped outdoor spaces, with a communal terrace and new tree and shrub planting", as well as "tailored shared facilities , including a communal lounge and a guest suite for when friends and family come to stay".

The 48 apartments are planned to be a mixture of one bedrooms and two bedrooms, and the complex will also have 35 parking spaces.

McCarthy Stone are now holding a community consultation programme to inform Huntingdon locals about the plans and give them the opportunity to have their say.

The developers have created a timescale of how they hope the planning process will go. The public consultation will take place from the end of September until early October.

McCarthy Stone then intend to submit a planning application in October and expect Huntingdonshire District Council to run statutory consultation on the proposals between November and December 2024.

The timescale then indicates that Huntingdonshire District Council should determine the application in early 2025, but that is subject to change.

The developers have also said that "realistic construction timeframes will be shared as the project progresses through planning".
