As the new season of The Great British Bake Off gets underway tonight (Tuesday September 24), the show’s current champion is planning to be in St Neots on Friday (September 27).
Matty Edgell will be at The Cross Keys Mews in the town supporting The Macmillan Coffee Morning between 10am-2pm.
He was crowned winner of the popular competition despite considering himself the show’s “underdog”.
His appearance at Friday’s event has been arranged by Serious About St Neots.
Matty will judge a fun St Neots Bake Off, with bakers of all ages and abilities invited to enter their bakes (by 10am) on the day to be crowned St Neots' Best Baker.
There will also be a Wooden Spoon handed to the baker whose bake may not have turned out quite as expected and the organisers say all entries are welcome.
He will also demonstrate his own delicious foccacia recipe using Basque Country ingredients supplied by Zooteek.
St Neots bakers Welch Bakes will bake a limited number of these loaves with proceeds donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
There will be a 'guess the weight of the cake' competition along with the chance to buy lots of cake, bread, coffee and products from all the shops in the Cross Keys Mews with donations all contributing to this cause.
Event organiser, Mennel Welch, owner of Welch Bakes, said: “This is a cause dear to my heart and last year the wonderful community of St Neots helped raise a significant sum.
“All the businesses in the Mews are involved and with Matty Edgell coming to judge our very own Bake Off it is a recipe for a fantastic day.”
The new series of the Great British Bake Off will be aired at 8pm tonight (Tuesday).
