A charity fly-fishing event has raised £834 for a children's charity.
The Three Fly Cast competition at Summerfield's Trout Fishery in Bedfordshire collected the funds in aid of Dreamdrops, a charity supporting children in hospital care, the Special Care Baby Unit at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, and families of children with autism.
The event, organised by Richard and Phillipa Winser of the Fly-Fishing Academy, challenged 17 anglers to catch fish using only three specified fly patterns.
Points were awarded based on the weight of each fish caught, and the enticing properties of the fly used, with all fish carefully released back into the water.
The Winsers said: “This is a popular competition, a highly sociable and friendly event, which has developed somewhat of a following due to the quite unique format.
"When restricted to just three fly patterns, those taking part are often compelled to experiment with different tactics and it really can be anyone’s game.”
Summerfield's Fly Fishery is managed by Dave Rice, who took over the fishery in 2023.
Mr Rice said: “We are a small trout fishing syndicate in Bedfordshire and it has been great to hold this event and donate the proceeds to such a worthy local charitable cause."
The proceeds will be put towards Dreamdrops' continuous support for the local community's children.
Dreamdrops chairman, Christine Luckham, said: "Dreamdrops are extremely grateful to the fly fishing academy for their continued support over the years.
"The difference it makes to the children we support is amazing to see."
The winners of the competition were Ben Savage, who scored 43 points, followed by syndicate member Ettiene Fernandes with 24 points, and his father, Dean Fernandes, with 15 points.
The next event, the Bank Partners competition, is already planned for April 26, 2025.
