A former takeaway in Huntingdonshire has been fined upwards of £6,000 for violating food hygiene standards.
An inspection was carried out at Somersham Curry and Kebab Ltd in August 2023 after a complaint was made regarding poor hygiene practices at the premises.
A Huntingdonshire District Council Environmental Health officer inspected the premises and found several serious food hygiene violations.
Some of the offences included unsafe food storage, poor cleanliness in food preparation and allowing a lavatory to open into a food storeroom.
The sole director of the takeaway, Shezan Gul Nawaz, was prosecuted for the offences.
Mr Nawaz pleaded guilty to 15 offences at Cambridge Magistrates Court on September 19 and was fined £6,218.
The prosecution was supported by Huntingdonshire District Council. Councillor Stephen Ferguson, executive councillor for resident services & corporate performance, stated: "The council is committed to protecting public health.
"Food businesses are legally required to uphold basic hygiene and safety standards to ensure their customers’ safety.
"Our Environmental Health team works diligently to support businesses with advice and inspections to help them meet these obligations."
Somersham Kebab and Takeaway has now ceased trading and is under new ownership. A new food hygiene rating will be published in future.
