Bill Hensley, station manager for Huntingdon Community Radio, writes his monthly column for October.
The station has soul and Motown, rock 'n' roll, country, soft rock!, easy listening, jazz, back to the 80s, club and dance, classical, local bands and talent, and drama and poetry.
All these specialist shows, together with their musical sub-genres feature weekly on HCR104fm - where else can you hear the music that you like? And where else will you hear a radio soap drama on a community station?
Every evening at 8pm, and at weekends, at least one of these genres of music together with our drama unit’s output are featured on the station. Our volunteer presenters and producers work hard to prepare and deliver their own specialism - and all because they love music, radio and community.
But it doesn’t end there. At 7pm on weekday evenings, the Over to You features local charities, groups and societies who come along to the studio to promote their presence in the Cambridgeshire area.
This ‘slot’ also features a ‘nostalgia’ show, an astronomy show, and a show aimed at women (and very soon and currently in the planning stage, one for the men too!).
If you are involved in a local charity or society and wish to promote your work, please email: oty@hcrfm.co.uk.
And if you miss an episodes of our soap Huntsford on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10.25am and 3.25pm, you can catch up on Sundays with the omnibus edition at 3.25pm during our Sunday Supplement programme.
These episodes additionally feature as podcasts on our website too. Just go to: https://www.hcrfm.co.uk/drama/huntsford/
If you miss any show, or just want to ‘listen again’ all shows are available for two weeks via https://www.hcrfm.co.uk/on-air/listen-again/
A quick mention of one of our premier daytime shows - from October 21, two of our new presenters take over permanently on Breakfast, live from our Saxongate studios.
Mondays and Tuesdays you will hear Andy Huffer and on Wednesday to Friday, the new voice is Paul Jackson. Andy and Paul have some great ideas for the show and there will be the usual traffic and travel bulletins.
