Nearly £500,000 worth of illegal cigarettes and tobacco were found in the back of a HGV in Huntingdonshire this month.
Cambridgeshire Police became aware of "suspicious activity" surrounding a HGV parked in Glebe Road, Huntingdon, after a member of the public put a call in on October 6.
The force attended the scene and initially suspected that the incident could be related to human trafficking.
However, they were met with a HGV full of tobacco and cigarettes that are suspected to have been brought into the country illegally.
More than 14,000 packets of tobacco and 95,000 cigarettes were in the back. The items were seized with help from HMRC officers.
It is estimated that the duty of the items would have been £426,735. A HMRC-led investigation is now ongoing.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said: "Thank you to the member of the public who initially suspected an incident of human trafficking.
"Although no evidence of this was uncovered, it was clearly the right thing to do."
