A large kitchen knife was handed in to police who were on patrol in St Ives town centre.
Officers were approached by a local person who was unsure of how to dispose of it.
Police collected the knife from the resident’s home address, and it will now be safely disposed of.
"If you see us out and about, please come and say hello and share any concerns you may have," said a spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
