October was a busy month for both Cambridgeshire Police and the courts, as many criminals were sent behind bars for their crimes.

Some of the crimes that saw sentences given out this month include murder, drug dealing, and causing death by dangerous driving.

Amer Jahangeer

(Image: Cambridgeshire Police) Amer Jahangeer was jailed for 12 months in October after he attempted to dodge Cambridgeshire Police officers on the A1 by driving up the wrong side of the road.

Jahangeer, 33, sped off from officers once he realised he had been seen by them, and sent them on a pursuit through St Neots and Wyboston. 

After he was arrested, it transpired that Jahangeer, who is from London, had a provisional driving licence and the Audi had no insurance.

Florin Bairam

(Image: Cambridgeshire Police) Florin Bairam, a 34-year-old man from Peterborough, was jailed this month after he attacked his former partner with a hockey stick and controlled her life.

The abuser made threats to kill her and her children and spent her money. When he was the victim of an assault, police officers visited his home and witnessed his aggressive behaviour to his partner.

Officers saw him make a "cut-throat gesture" at the victim, before she confided in them that he was abusing her. He has been jailed for two years and two months.

Samuel Robinson

(Image: Cambridgeshire Police) A former primary school teacher and scout leader was jailed in October after he had a sexual conversation with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.

Samuel Robinson, 27, was caught out by a decoy from an online child activist group. The individual told Robinson they were 13, but he carried on the conversation.

After his arrest, his devices were seized and it was found he'd also communicated with a 15-year-old girl. The Milton man was jailed to two years and 10 months in prison.

Gheorghe Hirtopeanu

Gheorghe Hirtopeanu has been jailed for drunk driving. Gheorghe Hirtopeanu has been jailed for drunk driving. (Image: Cambridgeshire Police) Gheorghe Hirtopeanu, 65, was caught swerving across lanes in his lorry on the A1 between Stevenage and St Neots in June 2024.

He was eventually stopped by a police stinger, and appeared to be drunk when he was found in the cab. He refused to provide a breath sample in custody.

The lorry driver will now spend 14 months in jail.

Miguel Moto

(Image: Cambridgeshire Police) 18-year-old Miguel Moto is set to spend two-and-a-half years behind bars after he was found with drugs, cash and an imitation firearm.

The Wisbech teenager was found out after he shouted at neighbourhood police officers while they were on duty.

Kieran Napier

Kieran Napier has been jailed for a 'one punch' attack.Kieran Napier has been jailed for a 'one punch' attack. (Image: Cambridgeshire Police) Kieran Napier was told by a judge that he was lucky to not face a manslaughter charge after a single punch from him left his victim with a brain bleed.

Napier, 27, of Great Paxton, drunkenly attacked a man with one punch. The victim fell to the ground and hit his head, which left him with two brain bleeds.

He will now spend one year and 10 months in jail. 

David Taylor

(Image: Cambridgeshire Police) David Taylor, 58, will spend three years and six months in jail for killing a much-loved motorcyclist in Ramsey.

The Chatteris man tried to overtake a van on Forty Foot Bank, Ramsey, when he struck motorcyclist Alexander Paynter, 25, head on. 

Taylor was jailed for three years and six months and has been disqualified from driving for six years and eight months.

Daniel McCarroll

Daniel McCarroll was arrested on his birthday.Daniel McCarroll was arrested on his birthday. (Image: Cambridgeshire Police) Drug dealer, Daniel McCarroll, 26, had been drinking on his birthday at a property when the police arrived. 

The force said found thousands of pounds of drugs including cocaine, ketamine and MDMA.

McCarroll, from Peterborough, was jailed for a total of four years.
