People living in a Huntingdonshire village have revived their concerns over a waste incinerator being built near them as a fresh round of planning documents have been submitted.

An application to Cambridgeshire County Council was submitted in 2022 but was shelved in 2023. However, consultation comments from as recent as October 2024 are now accessible in the planning portal.

Stopford, a consultancy agent, has been appointed by ThermEco, along with Woodford Recycling Services to build a thermal treatment facility next to Puddock Road, branded as Warboys Green Energy.

The site is due to sit near The Old Brickworks and will be be four miles from the proposed Envar Incinerator in Woodhurst, near Somersham.

Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner, gave the Envar Incinerator the green light in July 2024.

The Warboys facility will process non-hazardous waste from the Woodford Recycling Centre across the road in order to divert the waste from landfill sites.

The waste will be incinerated, and the heat will feed into a turbine and generate electricity. Ash that is generated from the incinerator will be collected and removed.

The plans show that the incinerator facility would operate 24 hours a day for seven days a week, and would incinerate 87,500 tonnes of waste a year.

The MP for Huntingdon, Ben Obese-Jecty, said about the plans: "The Labour Government has already approved one incinerator in the constituency.

"Given its proximity to this site and the fact that it appears to create excess capacity I cannot see what justification there could be for a second in the area with such a potentially significant impact upon local residents in Warboys and Pidley, between the two incinerators."

Warboys Parish Council previously objected to the plans for an incinerator in the village. Their opposition was backed by fellow town councils, including Ramsey Town Council.

The Parish Council are yet to address the refreshed plans.
