More than 2,100 people have taken steps to improve their health in a new initiative.

Over three months, people have been encouraged to reduce their risk of strokes, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular diseases as part of the 'Your Healthier Future' initiative.

This programme was launched in July and is a partnership between NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, the public health departments, Cambridgeshire County Council, and Peterborough City Council.

The initiative involves GP practices sending tailored text messages to patients at higher risk of cardiovascular disease, offering them personalised support, tools, and treatment.

This is a crucial step, as cardiovascular disease accounts for 25 per cent of deaths in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, and Royston.

Dr Jessica Randall-Carrick, clinical co-lead for cardiovascular disease prevention with NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, said: “We’re pleased that over 2,100 people who are at higher risk of cardiovascular disease have already taken decisive steps to improve their heart health through Your Healthier Future.

“This is only the start of this brilliant new programme to help you take control of your health, so if you are contacted by your GP practice over the coming weeks and months, embrace the opportunity to get involved and make a positive difference to your health and wellbeing.”

The NHS is urging people invited to participate in Your Healthier Future to accept their invitation and make positive health changes.

The goal is to help people live longer, healthier lives by reducing their risk of cardiovascular disease.

More information about the Your Healthier Future initiative is available online at the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System website.

This initiative is a crucial step in supporting local people and reducing the chances of developing cardiovascular disease.
