Cambridgeshire pet owners and animal lovers are being asked to share their best memories from the Woodgreen Pets Charity.

The organisation, whose HQ is based in Godmanchester, is celebrating 100 years since opening in November 1924.

100 years ago, Louisa Snow and Dr Philip G Peabody set up the Wood Green Animal Shelter following on from the end of the First World War.

It was a time when many people were unable to afford to care for their pets, leaving many animals abandoned and vulnerable on the post-war streets.

The site has served as the charity's base ever since.

The popular Channel 4 show, The Dog House, which sees dogs matched up with their forever home, is filmed at the Godmanchester HQ.

It could be from adopting a pet and the difference it made to their lives, to volunteering at one of the centres, or how support from Woodgreen transformed a pet's life.

Rohan Putter, chief executive officer at Woodgreen Pets Charity, said: "For 100 years, Woodgreen has been able to help pets and their people thanks to everyone who supports our work.

"The challenges people faced with their pets in 1924 are as relevant today, whether that’s a behavioural issue, medical condition or simply not being able to afford to care for them. However, the way we help pet owners has changed significantly.

"We’ve learned a lot over the last century, and we’re much better equipped to meet the needs of pets and their people.

"Looking to the future, we’re excited about embracing a fresh approach."
