The popular tourist attraction, Johnsons of Old Hurst, could be welcoming a new animal to its already expansive collection.

The Huntingdon business has submitted a planning application to Huntingdonshire District Council seeking to build a monkey enclosure as well as a viewing hut.

The site is set to be visually in keeping with the rest of the Johnsons of Old Hurst buildings, and will be built using the same brick, stone and tiles as is on all other premises on the land.

In August 2024, Johnsons of Old Hurst was named was one of the UK's Best Family Attractions in the lifestyle magazine Muddy Stilettos.

The article about the farm read: "It is a sustainable family attraction that has something for everyone and you can while away several very enjoyable hours here.

"There’s also the zoological gardens where you can see wallabies, macaws, lizards, snakes, owls, cattle, deer and buffalo."

The planning application was validated by Huntingdonshire District Council on Wednesday, October 30.

The council have set an internal target date on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. The planning reference number is 24/01943/FUL.
