A closed pub in a Huntingdonshire town could become a convenience store under new plans.
A planning application submitted to Huntingdonshire District Council by Noble Trading (UK) Ltd seeks approval to convert The Bulls Head on Cambridge Road, in St Neots, into a "modern" store.
The plans said the development would offer a "diverse range" of essential goods and services to local residents and to meet the needs of the community.
The proposed shop will be reconfigured to accommodate a grocery section, fresh produce, bakery and delicatessen offering "better economy" for locals, while maintaining the building's character.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said: "The development will maintain the existing scale of the main building, ensuring that it remains compatible with the surrounding properties.
"The scale of the development will be carefully considered to avoid overshadowing neighbouring buildings and to preserve the area's visual character.
"The development will also incorporate the removal of the adjacent timber shelter. This was thought to be an outside smoking area. The new proposals use as a store car parking area will make valuable use of the space available."

The plans suggested the shop would meet a "clear community need" and contribute to the sustainability of the local economy by creating employment opportunities for full and part-time staff.
It comes as Noble Trading (UK) Ltd previously submitted an application for a new premises license for the retail sale of alcohol for consumption off the premises between 6am and 12am.
The proposals added: "The redevelopment of the Bulls Head represents a significant opportunity to revitalize a historic building and the ongoing regeneration of the St Neots Conservation Area.
"By carefully balancing the needs of the present with the preservation of the past, this project will ensure the long-term viability of this important landmark."
