The future of the Homebase store in Huntingdon is uncertain after it was confirmed that the DIY retailer fell into administration.
CDS Superstores, who owns The Range and Wilko, has acquired the Homebase brand name, the intellectual property and up to 70 UK stores in a bid to save the retailer.
The deal between Homebase and CDS Superstores will save up to 1,600 jobs. However there are 49 Homebase stores, and around 2,000 jobs, unaccounted for.
As reported in the Retail Gazette, the administrators have confirmed that there would not be any immediate redundancies and employees' wage and benefits will be paid while they remain in work.
The Homebase brand will continue to trade online, and the stores acquired by CDS Superstores will continue to trade as Homebase. Eventually, the stores will re-open as The Range stores.
CDS Superstores has been contacted regarding the future of the Huntingdon Homebase store.
