A man has been jailed for "sickening behaviour" which saw him strangle his ex-partner and punch and hit two children.
On August 25, Adam Hodgkins was at his ex-partner's house in Fenstanton while they argued after she ended the relationship.
He headbutted her and strangled her so she could not breathe. The victim managed to get her phone and threw it to a child so they could raise the alarm.
Hodgkins, 31, then punched the child before returning to strangle the victim again.
The woman managed to escape and ran outside. In the meantime, Hodgkins punched a hole in a door at the property and caused further damage to items belonging to the victim.
The woman made it to a neighbouring property, but Hodgkins pursued her.
Another woman tried to intervene, but Hodgkins punched and kicked her multiple times before attacking a man who tried to help.
He then hit another child in the back of the head.
Hodgkins, of Throne Road, Rowley Regis, West Midlands, admitted intentional strangulation, assault causing actual bodily harm, four counts of assault by beating and three of criminal damage.
On November 25 at Cambridge Crown Court he was jailed for two years and four months.
On sentencing, His Honour Judge Grey gave the woman who intervened a formal commendation, stating "her bravery no doubt prevented a far more serious incident."
DC Edward McAuley said: "Hodgkins clearly didn’t care who he attacked as he assaulted women and children who got in his way.
"His behaviour was sickening, and I’m pleased he has now appeared in court.
"Tackling domestic abuse is one of our priorities and I’d encourage anyone in an abusive relationship to seek help."
