DENNIS Greene urged St Neots Town to finish the job and claim their first silverware of the season after reaching the final of the Hunts Senior Cup.

Saints produced a professional win at Ramsey and will meet Yaxley, conquerors of St Ives Town in the other semi-final, at Jubilee Park on Monday, May 5.

Greene took charge of the team in the absence of manager Steve Lomas, who was attending a Uefa Pro Licence training session in Northern Ireland.

Greene said: "This is an important chance for the team to tie up some silverware this season. It's all valuable experience for the players, and will benefit them in the future, as we try to develop that winning mentality in the squad.

"We might just fall short of winning the league, so the Senior Cup may be our shot at silverware this season. The opportunity to win pushes you on for the next season," said Greene.

Saints got out of the blocks quickly on Saturday, signalling their intentions to a Ramsey side that appeared shell-shocked for the first half.

Neots took the lead midway through the first half when Shane Wylie stroked home left-footed. Other chances came and went for Neots, but the game was made safe when midfielder Rob Hughes hooked in over his shoulder from close range five minutes before the break.

Greene added: "We told the players to start fast and make Ramsey feel like they were up against it straight from the off. Mentally, they probably felt the match was over by 25 minutes. But they conducted themselves very well, and their commitment and attitude was spot-on."

Ramsey manager Brett Whaley acknowledged his team had been well beaten, and had only got a foothold in the game when Neots withdrew their bigger names.

He added: "They imposed themselves on us and played how they wanted to. They made life very difficult for my players and thoroughly deserved the win.

"The one real chance that we had came late on and we missed it, but it was a great learning curve for my players if they want to step up to UCL Division One football."

ST NEOTS visited Bourne Town last night (Tuesday), and host Cogenhoe United on Saturday ahead of the Easter Monday derby clash against St Ives Town at Westwood Road at 3pm.
